How essential oils are shaping the future of home cleaning products

The use of essential oils in toxic chemical-free cleaning products is fast being common in many homes.  Essential oils don’t only smell divine, but they can actually help to improve your mood and cleaning efforts.  In this article, we’re going to explore why essential oils are becoming such a large component of our daily lives and what this means in the future of home cleaning products.

To begin though … what are essential oils?

Essential oils are natural, eco-friendly and safe alternatives to synthetic fragrances.  These gorgeous smelling oils can be derived from a whole variety of local flora including Eucalyptus Australiana, Peppermint, Lemon Myrtle, Mandarin, Lemon Scented Eucalyptus, Pink Grapefruit, Rosemary plus others!

Due to the strong, long-lasting, natural, safe and revitalising smells from essential oils, they have made their way into many chemical-free cleaning products.  As well as smelling incredibly good, these essential oils have other purposes.  For example, Eucalyptus is particularly effective when it comes to disinfecting surfaces whereas Pink Grapefruit is found have certain energising properties which can help to have a positive impact on wellbeing.  And Peppermint, on the other hand, is a fantastic insect repellent which makes it perfect to use in glass cleaners for when attending to the windows and glass doors.

Finding the strengths of each essential oil and utilising them around the home is what makes for the perfect toxic-free cleaning product.

Why are essential oils used in chemical-free cleaning products?

There are many reasons as to why essential oils are used in chemical-free cleaning products, but the top 3 reasons come down to:

  • The effectiveness of these natural oils

  • Ease of mind knowing that they’re not going to harm your family or the environment

  • 100% natural alternative

  • Invigorating and uplifting smells

What does this mean for the future?

At Koala Eco, we would love for one day to see the majority of homes switching to toxic chemical-free cleaning products. This means ditching the artificial fragrances and sticking to those safe, natural scents instead.  A large reason as to why chemical-infused cleaning products continue to stay in people’s homes is because large companies have developed synthetic fragrances to trick our minds into believing that we’re using natural odours.  There is actually very little education out there on the harsh effects that these toxic ingredients are having on our family as well as the environment around us.
